The Project
The Offley Arms in Madeley – a Joules Brewery pub – needed a complete overhaul of its kitchen electrical distribution board. The existing setup was a tangle of legacy wiring, with circuits added and adapted over the years without any clear labelling or structure. For a busy commercial kitchen, that’s not just inconvenient, it’s a genuine safety and compliance risk.
Our team was brought in to design, supply and install a brand new three phase distribution board, fully labelled and compliant with current regulations, while keeping disruption to the kitchen to an absolute minimum.
What We Found
The original setup told its own story. Above the kitchen, a ceiling void was crammed with dozens of unlabelled data and power cables, tied together with cable markers that had long since stopped making sense. The distribution board itself was similarly chaotic, with circuits added piecemeal over years, with connections that made fault finding and future maintenance genuinely difficult.
The Installation
We specified and installed a new FuseBox three phase distribution board, rated to current building wiring regulations and fitted with RCBO protection across every circuit, giving individual fault protection rather than relying on shared RCDs that can take out multiple circuits at once.
Every single circuit was identified, tested, and labelled clearly on the board, covering lights, sockets, kitchen sockets, dishwasher, oven, fan, and dedicated circuits for the dining area. For a working kitchen, this means any future issue can be isolated and dealt with quickly, without guesswork and without shutting down the whole kitchen.
Surge protection devices were also fitted as standard, helping to protect the kitchen’s electrical equipment, including ovens, fridges, dishwashers and extraction systems, from voltage spikes on the incoming supply.
The Result
The Offley Arms now has a fully compliant, clearly labelled three phase distribution board that the venue’s team and any future contractors can actually understand at a glance. Every circuit is identified, individually protected, and tested, replacing what had become an increasingly difficult to manage legacy system with something fit for a busy commercial kitchen for years to come.
Commercial Electrical Work in Cheshire
This installation is a good example of the commercial electrical work we carry out across pubs, restaurants and hospitality venues. If your premises has an ageing or poorly documented distribution board, it’s worth having it assessed before it becomes a bigger problem. Our commercial and industrial electrical services cover everything from distribution board upgrades to full rewires and compliance testing.
We also cover Crewe and Nantwich and the wider Cheshire region for all our electrical services, from commercial installations to domestic rewires, solar and EV charging.
