The Project
This job in Shropshire involved handling the electrical side of a new Daikin air source heat pump installation. As part of our wider domestic electrical services, the work covered everything from the dedicated heat pump circuit through to isolation switches, consumer unit work, and the electrical supply for the system’s wet fan convector heater.
Heat pump installations bring together several elements that all need to work together correctly, the outdoor unit itself, the electrical supply feeding it, the controls inside the property, and often related components like immersion heaters and fan convectors that support the wider heating system. Getting each of these right, and labelled clearly, was the focus of the job.
Dedicated Circuits and Isolation Switches
The heat pump and immersion heater were each given their own dedicated circuit, isolated with clearly labelled GARO isolator switches fitted outside near the unit. Labelling matters here, a heat pump system involves more than one circuit working together, and clear labelling means anyone servicing the system in future, whether that’s us or another engineer, can identify exactly what they’re isolating before starting work.

Cable Routing and Outdoor Connections
Running the electrical supply out to the heat pump unit meant careful routing alongside the refrigerant pipework, keeping everything protected and tidy against the brickwork rather than left exposed. This kind of coordination between the electrical and mechanical sides of a heat pump install is a key part of getting the whole system right, not just wiring the unit itself.

Controls and Monitoring
Inside, the Daikin control panel gives a clear view of the system, hot water temperature, heating zones, and system pressure all in one place. Getting the electrical supply and connections right behind the scenes is what allows a control panel like this to actually work reliably day to day.

Powering the Heat Pump’s Fan Convector Heater
As part of the same heating system, the property also has a wet fan convector heater, fed with hot water from the heat pump rather than heating electrically on its own. Because it has a fan built in to actively blow warm air into the room, rather than relying on natural convection like a standard radiator, it needs its own small electrical supply to run the motor, which is where we came in.
We installed a dedicated switch and transformer for the fan convector, correctly labelled and isolated, so the unit can be safely worked on independently of the rest of the heat pump system in future.

Heat pump installations only work as well as the electrics behind them. Getting the circuits, isolation and labelling right isn’t the most visible part of the job, but it’s what makes the system reliable and safe to work on for years to come.
Portcullis Power SolutionsThe Result
The property now has a fully wired, clearly labelled electrical setup supporting the new air source heat pump, including the fan convector heater it feeds. Every circuit is isolated, identified, and tested, giving a system that’s straightforward to maintain going forward.
If you’re planning a heat pump installation and need the electrical side handled properly, our team covers domestic electrical work across Cheshire and into neighbouring counties including Shropshire.
