The Project

This residential lighting installation in Cheshire involved designing and fitting a full multi-layer lighting scheme for a master bedroom — combining ambient, feature, and decorative circuits into a single cohesive result. The homeowner wanted a high-end finish that would work both as a functional room and as a proper retreat, with full control over the mood and atmosphere.

Rather than a straightforward fitting job, this required careful planning around the existing ceiling structure to achieve the indirect lighting effect without compromising the room’s proportions or the quality of the finish.

What We Installed

The centrepiece of the installation is a coffered tray ceiling with LED strip lighting recessed around the full perimeter. The strips sit behind the coving profile so the light source itself is hidden — what you see is a clean, even wash of light across the ceiling that creates depth and lifts the room without any visible fittings.

A multi-arm brass chandelier was installed as the main pendant, providing a decorative focal point and the primary downward light source. Bedside lamp circuits and dressing table supply points were also wired in as part of the wider scheme, allowing independent control of each lighting layer.

The Installation

The LED strip run required precise routing within the ceiling recess to ensure even light distribution all the way around — any gaps or joins in the strip show immediately in this kind of installation. The chandelier drop was positioned and fixed to the structural ceiling above the tray, keeping the pendant centred within the recess rather than the room itself, which is the detail that makes it look intentional rather than retrofitted.

All circuits were run back to a single switching point, allowing the homeowner to control each layer independently. All work was carried out to current IET Wiring Regulations and fully certified on completion.

The Result

A finished bedroom that works at every level – bright enough to use as a dressing room, warm enough to wind down in, and finished to a standard that sits comfortably alongside the quality of the room’s interior. The indirect ceiling lighting in particular makes a significant difference to how the space feels, removing the harsh shadows you get from a single overhead source and giving the room the kind of depth you’d normally only see in a hotel or show home.
